Welcome to Labrador Farms! We are located in Christiana TN, in between Murfreesboro and Shelbyville Thank you for stopping by and checking us out! We are home to the wonderful breed of Labrador Retrievers that own us. This site is dedicated to the very best friend anyone could ever have. Joe born 6/25/96 died 10/09. Joe was a product of the first litter born here at Labrador Farms. Parents were Tori (chocolate) and Duke (black) Duke was given to me as a Christmas present in 1994 from my parents. I then bought my future husband Tori for graduation 1994. That's where it all began!

So you are considering adding a Labrador Retriever to your home, you're the newest member of a huge and very enthusiastic fan club. The Lab is the most popular dog breed in America!
Here at Labrador Farms we strive to breed for good temperament, looks, agility. We specialize in Yellows, Chocolates and Blacks. It takes a certain person/family to own a Labrador. They are not for everyone: before making your decision let's consider the kinds of people who should not consider the ubiquitous Labrador for their lives.
1. Lap Dog Lookers- The Lab is NOT a lap dog. Now he will want to "Lap" and kiss you constantly, but he's too big to sit on your lap while reading or watching TV.
2. Couch Potatoes- Labradors love to romp and play, preferably with their humans close by. Labs most definitely have energy to spare.
3. No Boundaries- The Lab needs a sizable piece of property on which to exercise, and a fence is imperative! (Just ask our neighbors)
4. Outdoor Only- The Lab for all his natural good looks and charm does not fancy an owner who doesn't want to get up close to him and spend time with him indoors and out. Like most sporting breeds the Lab likes to be near his family.
5. Neatniks- The Lab sheds! Even though the breed has short, dense coat he does not cast coat any less than any other dog.
Now let's consider those that "Should" consider The Lab:
1. Those that enjoy a dog that is a People Person- although The Lab is bred to hunt and retrieve he does not do so alone.
2. Those that are active- Lab's have to be active to accompany a hunter from dawn to dusk, running, swimming, and retrieving.
3. Lab's are their own best ambassadors- People meet or hear of other people's Lab's and hope to get one just like them.
4. Labs love water- What breed is better to take to the beach or lake!
5. Lab's are incredibly versatile- These dogs excel at pursuits such as conformation, obedience, field trials, assistance to the handicapped and therapy work.
6. The Lab is easy going and especially patient with children- the only problem he poses is that in his enthusiastic jumping, the Lab may accidentally knock over a child.
7. The list could go on and on!

Fun Facts: The AKC breed standard recognizes three acceptable colors: Glossy Black, rich chocolate and shades of yellow ranging from light cream to deep red fox. Notice there is NO "white" or "silver". White is basically a pale pale cream while silver is not even mentioned in the standard.
It's a Fact: In 1830, the 2nd Earl of Malmesbury imported what might have been the first St. John's or Labrador dogs to England he unloaded the dogs at Poole Harbor, Dorset in southern England!
